Monza Beat Cagliari 4-0 and Torino Win 3-0 at Parma in Serie A Monday Matches
Monza beat Cagliari 4-0 and Torino won 3-0 away at Parma in the two Monday matches of Serie A matchday 7, played on October 19. Both results were one-sided. Both winners moved away from the lower part of the table.
Monza 4-0 Cagliari. The match was played at the U-Power Stadium in Monza. Eddy Kouadio broke the deadlock in the 39th minute. It was his first Serie A goal. Portuguese striker Gustavo Varela then scored just after the restart, in the 47th minute. Jay Robinson made it 3-0 in the 66th minute after a pass from Varela. Varela finished the scoring with his second goal in the 79th minute. Varela has been the driving force behind Monza's start to the season.
The result lifts Monza, coached by Ivan Jurić, to 7 points and 14th place. It takes them a little further away from the relegation zone. Cagliari sat seventh on 13 points before this match, and they stay there. The heavy defeat was an unexpected setback for them.
Parma 0-3 Torino. Torino, coached by Ignazio Abate, won at the Stadio Ennio Tardini. Giovanni Simeone scored after just four minutes. Che Adams made it 2-0 in the 24th minute. Torino controlled the game from then on. Parma barely reacted, although Romero tried to test goalkeeper Perri. Simeone scored again in the 69th minute, following an assist from Belghali, to complete the win.
Torino now have 10 points, just three behind Cagliari. They seem to have found their rhythm after a difficult start to the season. Parma, coached by Alberto Gilardino, are second from bottom with 4 points from seven matches. They are only one point above last-placed Venezia.
The two matches closed matchday 7. Inter and Lazio are level on 19 points at the top of the table. AC Milan are fourth on 15 points. Como are on 14 points after their win at Fiorentina.
