India Hit Record Team 100 in 5 Overs and Equal Fastest Team 50 in T20Is

India set two team records in the third T20I against New Zealand in Wellington on Tuesday, October 27. They reached 100 in 5 overs, the fastest team hundred in men's T20Is. They also reached 50 in 2.2 overs, which equals the fastest team fifty in the format. The chase of 199 ended in 13.2 overs, with 40 balls to spare.

The fifty came off 14 balls. Papua New Guinea (against Vanuatu in Port Moresby in 2019) and Romania (against Serbia in Sofia in 2021) also reached 50 in 2.2 overs. India's own previous best was 2.5 overs, against West Indies earlier this year. The hundred beat Romania's mark of 5.2 overs, also against Serbia in Sofia. South Africa and Australia are next on that list, both at 5.3 overs.

The opening pair of Abhishek Sharma and Vaibhav Sooryavanshi drove the start. Duffy's first over cost 26 runs. India finished the powerplay on 118 without loss, the highest powerplay total in men's T20Is. The earlier best was Romania's 116 without loss against Serbia in 2021. Abhishek scored 113 off 38 balls, and Sooryavanshi made 45 off 19. They added 133 runs for the first wicket before Sooryavanshi fell in the eighth over.
