Bengaluru FC Beat Chennaiyin FC 2-0 to Extend Winning Start to ISL 2026-27
Bengaluru FC beat Chennaiyin FC 2-0 at the Sree Kanteerava Stadium on Saturday, October 17, to make it two wins from two in the 2026-27 Indian Super League. Ryan Williams and Mihailo Perovic scored the goals on a rain-soaked evening in Bengaluru, and goalkeeper Gurpreet Singh Sandhu kept a clean sheet.
The south Indian rivals, who have met in an ISL final in the past, were both playing their second match of the season. Bengaluru had won their opening game, and Chennaiyin arrived after a 1-1 draw against FC Goa. Both sides began with intent despite the wet conditions, and Chennaiyin goalkeeper Mohammad Nawaz reacted sharply to keep out an early Bengaluru attempt.
Williams broke the deadlock in the 24th minute. He was quickest to react to a rebound and converted it for his first goal of the ISL season. Chennaiyin responded with a promising chance in the 33rd minute, when Mohammed Saheef crossed for Ramon Tanque, whose header was saved by Gurpreet. Chennaiyin created further openings before half-time, but were unable to score.
Bengaluru extended their lead seven minutes after the restart. In the 52nd minute, Perovic doubled the advantage and effectively sealed the three points.
Both teams made changes as the match went on. Bengaluru introduced Naorem Roshan Singh and Nikhil Poojary in the 63rd minute, while Chennaiyin brought on Bryce Miranda and Ladrinpuia four minutes later. Bengaluru captain Sunil Chhetri came on in the 70th minute, replacing Varshney, and came close to adding a third goal late on.
Chennaiyin pushed for a way back into the match in the closing stages. Brison Fernandes tested Gurpreet from distance in the first minute of stoppage time, but the Bengaluru goalkeeper made another save to preserve the clean sheet.
Bengaluru have now scored five goals in two matches this season. For Chennaiyin, coached by Clifford Miranda, the defeat follows their opening draw with FC Goa, and they are still searching for their first win of the campaign.
