Inter Come From Behind to Beat Bologna 3-1, but Lautaro Martínez Faces Month Out
Inter came from a goal down to beat Bologna 3-1 at the Stadio Renato Dall'Ara on Saturday, October 17, in Serie A. Marcus Thuram equalised before half-time. Substitutes Carlos Augusto and Ange-Yoan Bonny scored after the break. Inter now have 19 points from seven matches, three ahead of Lazio. Bologna stay on five points.
Bologna took the lead in the 10th minute. Tommaso Pobega dispossessed Luis Henrique and fired a powerful left-footed shot past goalkeeper Josep Martínez. Pobega nearly doubled the lead in the 40th minute, but his effort hit the crossbar. Inter equalised in the 44th. Thuram rose to head in a cross from Nicolò Barella on the right.
Carlos Augusto scored with his first touch in the 69th minute. He tapped home a low cross from Piotr Zieliński at the far post. Bonny, who came on in the 58th minute, sealed the win in the 83rd from close range. He had earlier seen a goal ruled out for offside by a very narrow margin.
It was Bologna's first defeat under coach Raffaele Palladino. Inter, coached by Cristian Chivu, are the reigning champions. They had scored 18 goals in their first six league matches. They stay top of the table.
The win came with some bad news. Captain Lautaro Martínez did not play. Italian reports say he will be out until the November international break. The club has said he has an adductor strain. That could cost him seven matches: five in Serie A and two in the Champions League.
The matches he is set to miss are against Bologna, Shakhtar Donetsk, Fiorentina, Venezia, the derby, Feyenoord and Como. Inter lost to Club Brugge in the Champions League on Wednesday. Lautaro reacted to that defeat on social media. He wrote that the only way to improve is to keep your head down and work hard.
