Luis Díaz Hat-Trick Helps Bayern Beat Leipzig 6-1 as Kane Marks 100th Bundesliga Game
Bayern Munich beat RB Leipzig 6-1 at the Allianz Arena on Saturday, October 17, and moved to the top of the Bundesliga. Luis Díaz scored a hat-trick. Harry Kane scored a goal and made two assists in his 100th Bundesliga appearance. Aleksandar Pavlović and Michael Olise also scored.
Bayern were on top from the start. A bad mistake at the back from Leipzig nearly gave Bayern an early goal, but Dayot Upamecano could not steer the ball home from close range. Díaz then scored in the 12th, 47th and 69th minutes. It was his second Bundesliga hat-trick, after a three-goal game against Hoffenheim last February. His second goal came just 95 seconds into the second half. His third was a powerful right-footed shot from the edge of the box. Díaz also set up a goal.
Kane scored the fifth goal in the 53rd minute. He tapped in a cut-back from Nathaniel Brown. It was his 102nd Bundesliga goal. He came into the game with 101 goals and 26 assists in the league. Kane also pulled the strings from deep. He made two assists, including a long pass into the path of Díaz.
Bayern were six goals up by the 69th minute. Andrija Maksimović scored Leipzig's only goal in added time. His shot hit the underside of the crossbar on its way in. The expected goals were 4.27 for Bayern and 0.62 for Leipzig.
The win was a strong response from Vincent Kompany's side. Bayern had come into the match after two disappointing draws. They drew with Augsburg in the Bundesliga and with Norwegian side Viking in the Champions League. Those results raised questions about their defence. This performance answered them.
Díaz came into the match with confidence after ending a goal drought in the Champions League. Now he has a hat-trick in the league as well. Bayern are top of the table after a result that put a strong marker down in their title defence.
