PSG Come From Behind to Beat Strasbourg 3-1 and Go Top of Ligue 1

Paris Saint-Germain came from behind to beat Strasbourg 3-1 at the Stade de la Meinau on Saturday, October 17, on Ligue 1 matchday 7. The win took PSG to the top of the table, at least for now, with other matches still to be played. Illia Zabarnyi, Ousmane Dembélé and Désiré Doué scored in the second half.

American midfielder Giovanni Reyna put Strasbourg ahead in the 17th minute. PSG went into half-time trailing. Coach Luis Enrique had rested most of his regular starters. The game came three days after a 4-2 win at Manchester City in the Champions League. It also came three days before a Champions League meeting with Barcelona. Khvicha Kvaratskhelia and Ferran Torres returned to the starting line-up, and Warren Zaïre-Emery wore the captain's armband.

Luis Enrique brought on Vitinha, Doué, Nuno Mendes, Achraf Hakimi and Dembélé by the 65th minute. The switch changed the game. Dembélé missed a penalty in the 72nd minute. He made up for it. He finished with a goal and an assist. Zabarnyi also scored. Doué then scored the final goal in the 93rd minute. Ferran Torres made that goal.

Goalkeeper Matvey Safonov kept PSG in the game with several key saves. Strasbourg's Gessime Yassine, Harder, Soumaila Coulibaly and Jeyland Mitchell all tested him. Strasbourg have seven points from seven matches, with two wins, one draw and four defeats.

Luis Enrique said away games are never easy. He said opponents have extra motivation against PSG. He said his team needed an early goal to feel comfortable, and instead Strasbourg scored. He praised the mentality of the group. He also said every player in the squad must be ready to compete whatever the circumstances.

It was the second week in a row that PSG needed their substitutes to turn a game around. They did the same against Le Mans a week earlier. After the win at Manchester City, Dembélé had joked that he might ask the coach for more time off. PSG are the reigning French champions.
