Como End Winless Run With 3-1 Win at Fiorentina as Liberali Scores First Serie A Goal
Como ended their winless run in Serie A with a 3-1 win away to Fiorentina at the Stadio Artemio Franchi on Sunday, October 18. Teenager Mattia Liberali scored his first Serie A goal on his first start for the club, and the result lifts Cesc Fàbregas's side to fourth in the table.
Como took the lead just after the half-hour. In the 32nd minute, 19-year-old Liberali cut in on his left foot and bent a superb finish low into the far corner, from inside the area. The goal came amid controversy. Como's Kempf appeared to foul Fiorentina's Pedro Gonçalves at the start of the counter-attack, but play went on. It was the first Serie A goal by an Italian player for Como since Patrick Cutrone in May 2025.
Four minutes later, in the 36th minute, Argentina international Nico Paz doubled the advantage with a well-controlled header. Fiorentina hit back before the interval. In the 42nd minute, Marin Pongračić fired in from seven yards, after Jacobo Ramón had cleared a corner header from Viery almost off the line. It was Pongračić's first Serie A goal, and gave the hosts hope.
Como restored their two-goal lead early in the second half. In the 56th minute, Anastasios Douvikas's tame effort went through the legs of Fiorentina goalkeeper David de Gea, and that effectively ended any chance of a comeback. Fiorentina had earlier seen De Gea palm a curling effort from Lucas Da Cunha round the post and parry a Douvikas header, but he could not prevent the third goal.
The result lifts Como to 14 points and fourth place, and ends a run of games without a win for Fàbregas's side. Fiorentina, coached by Paolo Vanoli, are second from bottom in the relegation zone on four points, ten points behind Como.
It was a reunion on the touchline too. Vanoli was Antonio Conte's assistant at Chelsea when Fàbregas was a player there. Fiorentina were also frustrated with the referee and VAR during the match.
