The ICC Men's T20 World Cup is the premier international Twenty20 cricket championship, organised by the International Cricket Council (ICC). First held in South Africa in 2007 — the very same year the T20 format exploded in popularity — it has since become one of cricket's most anticipated global events.

Unlike the ODI World Cup which runs every four years, the T20 World Cup has been held more frequently, producing ten editions between 2007 and 2026. The shortest format means matches can swing dramatically in just 20 overs, making for intense, high-scoring encounters and frequent upsets.

The tournament has seen remarkable diversity in champions. India won the inaugural edition under MS Dhoni, defeating Pakistan in a thrilling final. West Indies won back-to-back championships in 2012 and 2016. Australia, England, Sri Lanka, and Pakistan have each lifted the trophy once. India then claimed back-to-back titles in 2024 and 2026, becoming the first team to successfully defend the T20 World Cup and the most successful side in the tournament's history with three titles.

The T20 World Cup has also been a platform for associate and emerging nations to compete against the best, with teams like Afghanistan and Ireland producing memorable performances on the global stage.
