What are the Official Table Tennis Table Dimensions?
Table tennis (ping pong) table dimensions are standardised by the International Table Tennis Federation (ITTF) and have been fixed since 1926. The playing surface measures 2.74 metres long and 1.525 metres wide — exactly half of a badminton singles court. The table stands 76 centimetres above the floor, and a 15.25cm net divides it across the middle. These dimensions apply from recreational club tables all the way to the Olympic Games.
The playing surface must be uniformly dark — typically dark green or blue — and produce a uniform bounce of 23–25cm when a standard ball is dropped from 30cm height. The white sidelines (2cm wide) and end lines (2cm wide) are part of the playing surface. The centre line, which divides the table into two half-courts, is only relevant in doubles play — it has no significance in singles.
Table tennis is one of the fastest racket sports after badminton, with the ball reaching speeds of 100–170 km/h in professional play. The compact table size makes lightning-fast reflexes critical — a ball can travel the full 2.74m length in under 0.3 seconds at match speeds, giving the receiving player virtually no reaction time compared to other racket sports.
How to Read This Diagram
Key Table Zones
- • Playing surface: 2.74m × 1.525m — uniform dark colour, 23–25cm ball bounce
- • Net zone: 15.25cm high, overhangs table by 15.25cm each side
- • Centre line: 3mm wide — only relevant in doubles service rules
- • Sideline/end line: 2cm white lines — part of the legal playing surface
- • Room clearance: ITTF recommends 14m × 7m room space per table for tournaments
