India Women Fall to Japan 1-3 in Badminton Team Quarterfinal

India's women's team badminton campaign ended in the quarterfinals as hosts Japan won 3-1 at Sky Hall Toyota, knocking the side out of medal contention.

Akane Yamaguchi got Japan going with a three-game win over PV Sindhu, 2-1 (21-23, 21-18, 21-11). Tomoka Miyazaki then made it 2-0 with a straight-games win over Unnati Hooda. India's only bright spot came from Treesa Jolly and Gayatri Gopichand, who beat Yuki Fukushima and Mayu Matsumoto 2-0 (21-17, 21-16) in doubles to avoid a whitewash. But Nozomi Okuhara closed out the tie with a win over Tanvi Sharma.

India's women's team campaign ends at the quarterfinal stage, with the men's side still alive and through to the semifinals.
