Alexia Putellas Wins Her Third Women's Ballon d'Or in London
Alexia Putellas has won the 2026 Ballon d'Or Féminin, the third of her career. The Spanish midfielder was crowned at the ceremony at the London Palladium on Monday, October 26.
Putellas had a huge final season with Barcelona. She scored 24 goals and made 13 assists. She has since joined London City Lionesses, who play in the Women's Super League. Her first two Ballon d'Or wins came in 2021 and 2022.
Aitana Bonmatí had won the award in each of the last three years, from 2023 to 2025. Putellas has now taken it back. The Ballon d'Or Féminin was first awarded in 2018, so she has won three of the awards handed out to date.
Barcelona players took several of the other women's awards. Vicky López won the women's Kopa Trophy for the best young player. It was her second win in a row. The women's Kopa Trophy was only introduced in 2025, and López is the only player to have won it so far. She helped Barcelona win five trophies last season and scored 17 goals.
Cata Coll of Barcelona won the women's Yashin Trophy as the best goalkeeper. Pere Romeu was named the women's coach of the year. Barcelona Femení were also named the women's club of the year. Charlyn Corral of Pachuca and Mexico won the women's Gerd Müller Trophy, which goes to the top scorer.
Harry Kane, who won the men's Ballon d'Or, joined Putellas on the podium. Both winners were honoured at the same ceremony, which was hosted by Kate Scott and Thierry Henry. Lamine Yamal took the men's Kopa Trophy.
Putellas' new club are doing well in the league. London City Lionesses are third in the Women's Super League on 16 points after seven games. Manchester City Women are scheduled to visit them on Sunday, November 1.
