India Win Trap Mixed Team Gold, Third Shooting Title of the Games

India won gold in the trap mixed team shooting event at the Asian Games in Aichi-Nagoya, beating Qatar and China to the top of the podium.

Qatar took silver, with China settling for bronze. It is India's third shooting gold of the Games and comes on the back of a strong week for the country's trap shooters, following Neeru Dhanda's individual gold with a Games-record score and the women's team silver earlier in the competition.

Shooting has been one of India's most consistent medal-winning disciplines at these Games, with the country featuring on the podium across rifle, pistol and shotgun events throughout the fortnight. The trap mixed team gold adds a shotgun title to a tally that has so far been built largely on rifle and pistol success, including the earlier mixed team pistol gold from Suruchi Singh and Kamaljeet, and reflects the growing strength of India's shotgun programme after a difficult start to the trap and skeet events at these Games.

India's trap shooters had a mixed campaign in the individual and team events earlier in the competition, making the mixed team gold a fitting way to close out the discipline's medal events on a high note. The result continues a pattern seen across several sports at these Games, where India's mixed-team pairings have repeatedly delivered when the pressure was on, following similar gold-medal turnarounds in archery and pistol shooting earlier in the week.

The result is India's tenth gold of the Games, taking the country's overall medal tally to 58, with 21 silver and 27 bronze.
