About the Women's Asia Cup
The Women's Asia Cup is the premier continental cricket championship for women's teams in Asia, organised by the Asian Cricket Council (ACC). The inaugural edition was held in Sri Lanka in April 2004, contested as a five-match bilateral ODI series between India and Sri Lanka, which India won 5-0.
The tournament expanded over subsequent editions to include Pakistan, Bangladesh, and other Asian nations. The first four editions (2004, 2005-06, 2006, 2008) were played in the 50-over ODI format. Since 2012, the tournament has been played exclusively in the T20 format.
India has been the dominant force in the competition, winning seven of the nine editions held through 2024. Bangladesh created a major upset in 2018, defeating six-time champions India in the final to claim their maiden title. Sri Lanka won their first title in 2024, defeating India in the final on home soil at Dambulla.
A 2020 edition scheduled for Bangladesh was postponed due to the COVID-19 pandemic and later cancelled, meaning nine editions have been completed between 2004 and 2024.
