Whether a team is chasing a title, a European place or safety from relegation, the key question is how many points are still needed and whether the remaining matches make that possible. A win gives 3 points, so the maximum a team can add is 3 times the matches left.

This calculator takes the current points, matches played, matches in the season and a target total, then shows the points still needed, the points per game required, the wins needed if there were no draws, and a projection of the final total at the current pace.

20-team league
38 matches, 114 points maximum
Typical safety line
About 36–40 points
Typical title total
About 85–95 points
Maximum from remaining
3 × matches left
Formula:Points Needed = Target − Current Points | Needed PPG = Points Needed ÷ Matches Left
1
Current Points: The team's points now.
2
Matches Played / in Season: Matches played so far and the total in the season (38 for a 20-team league).
3
Target Points: The total you want to reach.

Round-number targets such as 40 points for safety or 80 for the top four are a rule of thumb. Seeing the points per game required turns that into something concrete: 1.4 points per game feels very different from 2.3.

It also shows when a target is mathematically out of reach. If the target is above the current points plus 3 per remaining match, no sequence of results can get there, which is how a team is "mathematically relegated" or "mathematically safe".

It multiplies the current points per game by the matches in the season. That assumes the team keeps its pace, so it is an indication rather than a prediction.
