Atalanta and Frosinone Draw 4-4 in Thriller
Atalanta and Frosinone drew 4-4 in an eight-goal Serie A thriller at the New Balance Arena in Bergamo on October 25, with the hosts leading 3-2 at half-time.
Frosinone scored after just 30 seconds. Romano Schmid shot them ahead after a loose pass from Ederson found him in the middle of the area. Atalanta replied in the 14th minute. Nikola Krstovic equalised, with an assist from Charles De Ketelaere. Frosinone then went back in front in the 17th minute, when Schmid scored again from a pass by Fares Ghedjemis.
Atalanta hit back before the break. They were awarded a penalty in the 31st minute after De Ketelaere's header struck the raised arm of Frosinone defender Cittadini. Ederson sent goalkeeper Palmisani the wrong way to make it 2-2 from the spot. Krstovic then scored his second goal on the stroke of half-time, set up by Davide Zappacosta, to put Atalanta 3-2 up.
The second half started just as wildly. Frosinone levelled in the 48th minute through Giacomo Calo, again with Ghedjemis supplying the pass. Atalanta went ahead again in the 50th minute. Calo made a mistake while playing out from the back, and Eljif Elmas scored the fourth goal, with Krstovic involved in the build-up.
Frosinone refused to give in. In the 82nd minute, Ghedjemis raced clear down the right once more and cut the ball back for Aleksa Terzic, who beat goalkeeper Marco Carnesecchi with his left foot to make it 4-4. Ghedjemis had a hand in three of Frosinone's four goals.
Atalanta had the better of the chances. Their expected goals figure was around 3.8, compared with about 1.4 for Frosinone, even though the visitors had 54 per cent of the possession. Krstovic's brace took him to six Serie A goals this season.
Atalanta came into the match after a disappointing Conference League result against Ajax and a league defeat to Milan. The point leaves them 11th on 10 points. Frosinone, who have made an excellent start to the season, are sixth on 14 points.
Atalanta visit Fiorentina on Thursday, October 29, and Frosinone host Lecce the same day.
