Mbappé Double Gives Real Madrid 2-1 Clásico Win Over Barcelona
Real Madrid beat Barcelona 2-1 in El Clásico at the Spotify Camp Nou on Sunday, October 25, in round 10 of LaLiga. Kylian Mbappé scored twice, including the winner in the 87th minute.
Mbappé put Madrid ahead in the 41st minute. His first goal took a deflection on its way in. Barcelona hit back in the 61st minute. Raphinha scored the equaliser, set up by Pedri. The match then looked headed for a draw.
Madrid found a late answer. Jude Bellingham produced a moment of fine skill, and Eduardo Camavinga cut the ball back for Mbappé. The French forward tucked it in to make it 2-1. Camavinga had come on as a substitute in the 80th minute.
The defeat ended Barcelona's perfect start to the league season. Madrid became the first side to beat Barcelona in LaLiga this season, and they now sit three points behind the leaders. Barcelona are the defending champions. They have won back-to-back titles under Hansi Flick, and last season they beat Madrid 2-0 at this ground to clinch the title. Going into this game, they had won six of their last seven competitive meetings with Madrid under Flick.
It was José Mourinho's first Clásico since he returned as Madrid coach. He celebrated by sliding on his knees. Afterwards he said that beating Barcelona at the Camp Nou was not the end goal, and that Madrid play to win the league. Pedri said Barcelona paid for their mistakes and were too slow on the ball.
Madrid arrived in good form. They had beaten RB Leipzig 4-1 in the Champions League on Wednesday. The win was also their 107th in the all-time Clásico series, the most of either club.
Madrid travel to AEK Athens in the Champions League on Wednesday, November 4. The return league Clásico is at the Bernabéu on Sunday, May 9, 2027.
