Man City Held by Man United as Chelsea Go Top of WSL

Manchester United Women drew 1-1 with Manchester City Women in the Women's Super League on Sunday, October 25. The result at Leigh Sports Village ended City's perfect start to the season. City had won each of their first six league games. The draw also let Chelsea Women go top of the table.

Khadija Shaw put City ahead in the 66th minute. Mary Fowler set up the goal. Shaw turned quickly and struck a low shot through the legs of Dominique Janssen. United then pushed for a way back. Elisabeth Terland levelled in the 89th minute with a superb late strike, and it earned United a deserved point.

The goal was a milestone for Shaw. It was her 100th WSL appearance, and she has now scored 91 goals in those games. She leads this season's scoring chart with eight goals.

Chelsea had earlier beaten Crystal Palace Women 3-1 away. Molly Bartrip put Palace ahead in the 20th minute. It was the first time Chelsea had trailed this season. Melvine Malard equalised in the 51st minute with a strike from distance. She then headed in Sandy Baltimore's cross to make it 2-1 with 15 minutes left. Baltimore sealed the win with a penalty in the 90th minute after Malard was fouled. It was Malard's fourth goal of the season.

Chelsea and City are both on 19 points from seven games. Each has won six and drawn one. Chelsea are ahead on goal difference, so they sit first and City second. London City Lionesses are third on 16 points. United are fourth with 11 points, after three wins, two draws and two defeats.

City are scheduled to visit London City Lionesses on Sunday, November 1. Chelsea host Everton on Saturday, November 7. The two title rivals then meet at Stamford Bridge on Saturday, November 14. Kick-off is at 1:30 pm UK time, and the match will be shown live on BBC One.
