Arsenal Close to Signing Bruno Guimarães From Newcastle

Arsenal are closing in on a deal to sign Bruno Guimarães from Newcastle United. Multiple reports say the two clubs have agreed the framework of a move worth around £75-80 million, with a medical expected before an official announcement.

Guimarães has been Newcastle's captain and has made 153 Premier League appearances since joining from Lyon. Newcastle had long resisted selling him, but their position has shifted this summer following a string of exits, including Sandro Tonali's move to Tottenham. Manager Eddie Howe left the club by mutual consent last week, and Arsenal are said to have grown more confident of landing Guimarães since his departure.

The 28-year-old Brazilian played for his country at this year's World Cup, where they were eliminated by Norway in the round of 16.

For Arsenal, the move would add depth and physicality to a midfield that was stretched thin last season, with injuries hitting Martin Ødegaard and Mikel Merino, and Martin Zubimendi carrying a heavy workload. Arsenal have already brought in Christos Tzolis, Illan Meslier and Piero Hincapié this summer, while Jakub Kiwior and Leandro Trossard have departed.
