2027 ODI World Cup Qualifier Dates Finalised: February 22 to March 23

The ICC has locked in the schedule for the 2027 ODI World Cup Qualifier, with the tournament set to run from February 22 to March 23, 2027. While the dates are now finalised, the host venue is still to be confirmed.

The Qualifier is the last stop on the road to the 2027 World Cup, which will be jointly hosted by South Africa, Zimbabwe, and Namibia from October 4 to November 21, 2027. Under the ICC's revamped 14-team format announced in July, only the Qualifier winner earns a direct berth in the main group stage. The teams finishing second, third, and fourth advance instead to a newly introduced Super Series, competing for the one remaining main-stage spot.

The 10-team Qualifier field will be made up of the two lowest-ranked Full Member nations in the ODI rankings (excluding hosts South Africa and Zimbabwe) as of September 30, 2026, along with the top four sides from the ICC Men's Cricket World Cup League 2 and four more teams emerging from a separate Qualifier Playoff.

The West Indies find themselves at the centre of the qualification drama. Currently 10th in the ODI rankings, they have just two ODIs left before the September 30 cut-off, both against India. Their fate could also hinge on the upcoming Afghanistan vs Ireland series — if Ireland win big, two West Indies wins over India could be enough to sneak into the top eight and avoid the Qualifier route altogether. A repeat of their 2023 World Cup qualification heartbreak remains a real possibility.
