Tanzid Hasan Becomes First Bangladeshi to Score a Test Century in Australia

Tanzid Hasan Tamim has etched his name into Bangladesh cricket history, becoming the first Bangladeshi batter to score a Test century on Australian soil, with a composed 101 on Day 2 of the series-opening Test in Darwin.

Playing just his second Test, the 25-year-old opener reached his century off 188 balls, striking eight fours and a six down the ground off Beau Webster along the way. He survived two dropped catches during the innings, including a let-off on 62 when Steve Smith couldn't hold on to a sharp chance at first slip off Nathan Lyon. Tanzid eventually fell for 101, holing out to Mitchell Starc at deep mid-off while attacking Lyon once more.

The milestone ends a wait of more than two decades for Bangladesh in Australia — the previous best individual score by a Bangladeshi batter on Australian soil was Hannan Sarkar's 76, made at Cairns back in 2003. Tanzid also became just the second Bangladesh player to score a Test century against Australia in any conditions, after Shahriar Nafees's hundred in 2006.

Tanzid's innings, alongside a fifty stand-building effort from Mominul Haque (49) and an unbeaten knock from captain Najmul Hossain Shanto, helped Bangladesh take firm control after bowling Australia out for 198 in the first innings at Marrara Stadium.
