Bangladesh Stun Australia by 9 Wickets in Historic Darwin Test

Bangladesh pulled off one of the biggest results in their Test history, beating Australia by 9 wickets in the series-opening Test at Marrara Cricket Ground, Darwin. It's their first-ever Test win on Australian soil. Hasan Mahmud was named Player of the Match for his match haul of 9 wickets (6/55 and 3/56).

Put in to bat after losing the toss, Australia never got going on a lively opening day. Mahmud ripped through the top and middle order, finishing with 6 for 55, while Steven Smith's fighting 71 was the only real resistance as the hosts folded for just 198.

Bangladesh's reply was built around a maiden Test century from Tanzid Hasan Tamim, who made 101 off 197 balls in only his second Test. Captain Najmul Hossain Shanto supported him with 84, and useful contributions from Mominul Haque (49) and Mehidy Hasan Miraz (65) took the total to 426 all out, a lead of 228. Josh Hazlewood was the pick of the Australian bowlers with 6 for 89.

Australia fought harder in their second innings, with Cameron Green striking a defiant 104 and Steven Smith adding 44. But Mehidy Hasan Miraz ran through the tail with a 5-wicket haul (5/56), and support from Mahmud (3/66) bowled Australia out for 284, leaving Bangladesh a modest target of 57.

Openers Shadman Islam (25*) and Mominul Haque (30*) knocked off the runs without much fuss to seal a 9-wicket win, sparking wild celebrations in the Bangladesh camp. It's just their third-ever Test appearance in Australia, and their first Test win in the country in any format history. Captain Shanto called it one of the proudest days of his career, while Mehidy credited the team's self-belief for turning around a tour that began with a warm-up defeat.

Bangladesh will look to seal the series when the two teams meet again in the 2nd Test at Mackay, starting August 22.
