Australia Drop Jake Weatherald, Recall Matt Renshaw for Second Bangladesh Test

Australia have made one change to their squad for the second Test against Bangladesh, dropping opener Jake Weatherald and bringing in Matt Renshaw as his replacement. The match starts Saturday at the Great Barrier Reef Arena in Mackay, a venue making its Test debut.

The call comes after Australia's shock nine-wicket defeat to Bangladesh in the series opener in Darwin. Weatherald managed just 23 and a duck in the match, extending a lean run that has now cost him his spot after only one Test since his recall. His career average across 12 innings stands at 20.36.

Renshaw, a left-hander like Weatherald, is set to open alongside Travis Head, breaking up the pairing that had put together strong stands during Australia's 4-1 Ashes series win. He has previously scored two first-class centuries at the Mackay venue, and remains in Australia's white-ball setup after making his ODI debut in October last year.

Marnus Labuschagne keeps his place in the squad for now, though coach Andrew McDonald has said he needs more runs to secure his spot. Australia must win in Mackay to keep the series alive after Bangladesh's win in the opener.
