India Win 3 of 4 Table Tennis Team Ties, Fall to Iran in Men's Event

India had a mixed day in table tennis team events at the 2026 Asian Games, winning three of four ties across the men's and women's competitions at Nagoya City General Gymnasium.

The women's team began with a comfortable 3-0 win over Indonesia, with Sreeja Akula, Diya Chitale and Yashaswini Ghorpade all winning their rubbers in straight sets. India then survived a scare against Singapore, coming back from 1-2 down to win 3-2. Ghorpade won two rubbers including the decider, beating Loy Ming 11-9 in the fifth game, while Akula won the crucial fourth rubber to level the tie.

The men's team also began well, beating Indonesia 3-0 behind wins from Sathiyan Gnanasekaran, Manav Thakkar and Manush Shah. But India lost their next tie 0-3 to Iran, with all three rubbers going in Iran's favour, including a fourth-game loss for the Harmeet Desai-Sathiyan Gnanasekaran pairing.

With three wins from four ties across the day, India's table tennis teams remain in strong contention in Group F as the tournament continues.
