Roshibina Devi Makes History With Third Straight Asian Games Wushu Medal

India's Naorem Roshibina Devi won silver in the women's sanda 60kg wushu final at the Asian Games, becoming the first Indian to medal in wushu at three consecutive editions of the Games.

Roshibina lost 0-2 to China's Zhang Xiaoyu in the gold-medal bout at the Aichi Prefectural Martial Arts Hall, with Zhang taking both rounds by unanimous decision. The 25-year-old had reached the final by beating Macao's Chu Man Sin 5-0 in the quarter-final and Indonesia's Thania Kusumaningtyas 2-0 in the semi-final. It matched the silver she won at Hangzhou 2023, building on the bronze she took at Jakarta 2018.

Roshibina's selection for these Games was far from certain. The Manipuri fighter was a late addition to the squad after original selection Divyanshi Choudhary was ruled out with an ACL injury, leaving Roshibina little time to prepare after being out of the national camp for around six weeks. Her silver was India's only medal from a seven-member wushu contingent, with Aryan (men's 56kg sanda) and Vikrant Baliyan (men's 75kg sanda) both eliminated in the early knockout rounds.
