Kazakhstan and Tajikistan Lead Central Asian Sweep of MMA Debut

Kazakhstan, Tajikistan, Singapore and Thailand shared the golds across mixed martial arts' debut weight categories at the Asian Games, in a tightly contested Central Asian-dominated competition.

Tajikistan's Mirzobek Umarov and Otabek Rajabov won the men's modern -60kg and traditional -65kg titles respectively, while Kazakhstan's Kadyrbek Shinbayev and Yerkingali Burkutalin topped the men's modern -71kg and traditional -77kg categories. In the women's events, Singapore's Hui Hoon Teo won the traditional -60kg gold (with India's Suchika Tariyal taking bronze), while Thailand's Kanjutha Phattaraboonsorn claimed the modern -54kg title.
