Ng Eain Yow Defends Squash Singles Gold, Abhay Singh Settles for Silver

Malaysia's Ng Eain Yow defended his Asian Games men's singles squash title, beating India's Abhay Singh 11-9, 11-5, 11-5 in the final at the Nagoya Kinjo-Futo Arena to deny India a first-ever gold in the event.

Abhay had enjoyed a stellar run to the final, becoming only the second Indian man after Saurav Ghosal to reach an Asian Games singles final, with straight-game wins over Thailand's Arkaradet Arkarahirunya, Sri Lanka's Ravindu Laksiri and Japan's Ryunosuke Tsukue, before a 11-3, 12-10, 11-6 semi-final win over Pakistan's Muhammad Irfan. Ng, the reigning champion from Hangzhou 2022, needed just 20 minutes to beat Pakistan's Noor Zaman in the other semi-final.

The gold also carried a direct qualification place for the Los Angeles 2028 Olympics, where squash will make its Olympic debut, meaning Ng has already booked his spot while Abhay's silver leaves India's own qualification route still open. Abhay, a 2024 Arjuna Award recipient, was already part of India's men's team gold from Hangzhou 2022.
