Virat Kohli Becomes Second Batter to 15,000 ODI Runs After Tendulkar

Virat Kohli became only the second batter in ODI history to reach 15,000 runs, after Sachin Tendulkar, during India's first ODI against West Indies at the Greenfield International Stadium in Thiruvananthapuram.

Kohli reached the landmark in his 315th ODI innings, 74 innings faster than Tendulkar, who took 377 innings to get there in 2007. He brought up his half-century off 40 balls in the process, breaking his own tied record with Tendulkar for the most 50-plus scores by an Indian against non-Asian teams. He later reached three figures, his 54th ODI hundred, already well clear of Tendulkar's tally of 49.

Tendulkar remains the format's all-time leading run-scorer with 18,426 runs from 463 matches, leaving Kohli 3,426 runs behind at the moment he crossed 15,000. Kohli's knock also helped set up a chase led by captain Shubman Gill, who struck his 10th ODI century as India chased down West Indies' target in Thiruvananthapuram.
