Kanoa Igarashi Leads Japan Sweep of Shortboard Surfing Golds at Asian Games

Japan swept both shortboard surfing golds at the Asian Games, with Tokyo 2021 Olympic silver medallist Kanoa Igarashi winning the men's title and Mirai Ikeda taking the women's.

Igarashi beat Indonesia's I Made Pajar Ariyana to gold, with the Philippines' Jayuard Alciso taking bronze. In the women's final, Ikeda held off China's Siqi Yang for gold, with fellow Japanese surfer Minami Nonaka completing an all-Japan podium in bronze.

Igarashi remains one of Asia's most recognisable surfers, having become the first Asian surfer to win a World Surf League Championship Tour event in 2019 before taking silver at the Tokyo Olympics.
