South Korea Sweep Poomsae Golds on Opening Day of Asian Games Taekwondo
South Korea won both individual poomsae golds on the opening day of taekwondo at the Asian Games, with Haeun Jung taking the women's title and Kyusung Yun winning the men's, extending the host nation of taekwondo's dominance of the discipline.
In the women's final, the Philippines' Juliana Mykhail Candelaria won silver, with Thailand's Thitaree Kaewolanwasu and Japan's Yuiko Niwa sharing bronze. In the men's event, Thailand's Navin Pinthasute took silver, with the Philippines' Jeus Gabriel Derick Yape and Singapore's Zong Han Darren Yap sharing bronze.
South Korea topped the taekwondo medal table at Hangzhou 2023 with five golds, and has won 63 of the discipline's Asian Games golds all-time. Poomsae competition runs through October 3 at the Toyohashi City General Gymnasium, alongside the Games debut of virtual taekwondo.
