India Face Brazil in Historic Friendly in Kolkata Tonight at 7:30 PM IST
India face five-time world champions Brazil tonight in the first senior men's meeting between the two countries. The friendly kicks off at 7:30 PM IST on Saturday, October 3, at the Salt Lake Stadium (Vivekananda Yuba Bharati Krirangan) in Kolkata. Brazil are ranked fifth in the world and India 138th. The match is live on the Sony Sports Network and SonyLIV.
Brazil coach Carlo Ancelotti is expected to make around seven changes from the side that beat Australia 4-2 in Brisbane. Coritiba goalkeeper Pedro Morisco is confirmed to start and will make his Brazil debut. Athletico Paranaense defender Arthur Dias is also in line for a first cap. Playing Morisco would mean Ancelotti has used all 26 players called up for this international window.
Raphinha will miss the match. He left the squad with a small muscular edema in the back of his right thigh after being substituted at half-time against Australia, and Brazil did not call up a replacement. In Friday's final training session in Kolkata, Flamengo striker Pedro was tested in his place, alongside Vinicius Junior and Estevao. Endrick also had minutes in that role. Ancelotti has not officially confirmed the full line-up. Joao Pedro had earlier withdrawn through injury and was replaced by Fluminense midfielder Gabriel Martinelli.
Brazil arrive unbeaten since their 2-1 round-of-16 defeat to Norway at the 2026 World Cup. They drew 1-1 with Australia and then won 4-2, with Vinicius scoring in Brisbane. India, coached by Khalid Jamil, are coming off a 1-1 draw with Panama in Bengaluru. Brazil will be only the third CONMEBOL side India have faced, after Peru and Uruguay. India have lost their previous three matches against South American opposition.
