Barcelona Tests Find No Significant Injury for Raphinha, Getafe Return Possible
Raphinha has avoided a significant injury, according to tests carried out at Barcelona's Joan Gamper training complex on Friday, October 2. The Brazilian is expected to be available for the club's first match back after the international break, at home to Getafe at the Spotify Camp Nou on Saturday, October 10.
The 29-year-old returned to Barcelona early from Brazil duty after being substituted at half-time in Brazil's 4-2 friendly win over Australia in Brisbane. Brazil described the problem as discomfort in his right thigh and released him from the squad for the friendly against India in Kolkata. An earlier scan had shown a small muscle edema in the back of his right thigh. Friday's examinations found nothing more serious, according to Spanish outlets Mundo Deportivo and Sport. He arrived at the training ground at around 11:00 and left shortly before 12:30.
The concern at the club was understandable. Raphinha lost more than 150 days to injuries in the same area last season, and he also missed about two weeks with a minor hamstring problem at this year's World Cup. Barcelona's medical staff have also raised questions about why he so often returns from international duty with a knock.
Head coach Hansi Flick may still manage his workload carefully, with October a busy month. Barcelona travel to Galatasaray in the Champions League three days after the Getafe match. Raphinha has scored 14 goals this season and won the La Liga Player of the Month award for the second month in a row.
