Hemp's Brace Leads Man City's Comeback Win Over Arsenal to Stay Perfect in WSL
Manchester City came from behind twice to beat Arsenal 4-2 at the Etihad Stadium. The result kept City's Women's Super League season perfect after five matches.
Lisa Baum put Arsenal ahead in the 43rd minute. Alessia Russo restored their lead in the 49th minute after a mistake from Yui Hasegawa in the City box. Arsenal controlled the game for a spell after that second goal.
City's coach Andree Jeglertz then made a triple substitution that changed the match. Kerstin Casparij came off the bench and helped City find an equaliser. Lauren Hemp gave City the lead for the first time in the 72nd minute, slotting the ball through the goalkeeper's legs for her second goal of the game. Khadija Shaw added a fourth in the 84th minute to settle the contest.
City have now won all five of their opening league fixtures. They sit 10 points clear of Arsenal, who have managed just one league win all season. It is the third time City have started a WSL campaign with five straight wins, after doing so in 2016 and 2017-18.
