Hojlund Penalty Sinks Wales as Ward Goes From Hero to Villain

Denmark beat Wales 1-0 in Cardiff through a late Rasmus Hojlund penalty, moving to second in Group A4, six points behind leaders Portugal.

Wales goalkeeper Danny Ward was the hero for much of the contest, pulling off several fine stops to deny Denmark, including a stunning save to tip a Gustav Isaksen header onto the post. But Ward turned villain in the 75th minute, bringing down Isaksen inside the box. Hojlund stepped up and calmly converted the resulting spot-kick into the bottom corner.

Wales, who needed a win to keep their quarter-final hopes alive, managed just one shot on target and now sit third in the group with one win from four matches. Denmark have taken six points from their last two games after a difficult start to the campaign.
