Tresoldi Hat-Trick Fires Club Brugge to 4-3 Win Over Inter at San Siro
Club Brugge pulled off a stunning 4-3 win against Inter at the San Siro on Tuesday, October 13, in matchday 2 of the Champions League. Striker Nicolò Tresoldi scored a hat-trick, and Inter are now without a point after two games.
The visitors took the lead in the 30th minute after a lightning counter-attack. Inter had a corner, but the ball was cleared and Carlos Forbs sprinted the length of the pitch before he was brought down by Hakan Çalhanoğlu in the penalty area. Tresoldi sent Josep Martínez the wrong way from the spot. Inter equalised before half-time. Lautaro Martínez held off his marker, turned and finished in the 44th minute.
The second half belonged to Tresoldi. In the 63rd minute, goalkeeper Josep Martínez rushed out and failed to clear, and Tresoldi tapped the ball into an empty net. He completed his hat-trick in the 74th minute. Forbs' shot was saved, but Tresoldi reacted quickest and fired the rebound into the bottom-left corner.
Inter hit back again through Lautaro Martínez, who cut onto his right foot and beat Yann Sommer in the 81st minute. That gave the hosts hope, but it lasted only six minutes. Substitute Romeo Vermant was played through the middle by another Brugge counter-attack, and chipped the ball over Martínez to make it 4-2 in the 87th minute, after an assist from Forbs. Ange-Yoan Bonny scored a late goal for Inter in the third minute of stoppage time, but Brugge held on.
Tresoldi became the first Club Brugge player to score a Champions League hat-trick. He is also the first Brugge player since Hans Vanaken in September 2021 to score in both of the club's first two matches of a campaign. Inter had 30 shots, but they had no answer to Brugge's direct attacks, which had also caught them out in their opening defeat to Bodø/Glimt.
For Club Brugge, it is the first win of their campaign. It is also only the second time that a Belgian club has beaten Inter away from home. Inter, coached by Cristian Chivu, have no points from their first two league-phase games.
