Yuvraj Singh Officially Joins Delhi Capitals as Assistant and Batting Coach for IPL 2027
Yuvraj Singh has been officially announced as the assistant coach and batting coach of Delhi Capitals. The franchise confirmed the appointment on Tuesday, October 13, ahead of IPL 2027. He will work under head coach Sourav Ganguly.
This is Yuvraj's first formal coaching role. The move had been reported back in June. Delhi have now made it official. Yuvraj said he is excited to start a new chapter with the franchise. He also said he looks forward to teaming up with Ganguly, this time as coaches.
Parth Jindal, the co-owner and chairman of Delhi Capitals, welcomed Yuvraj to the Delhi Capitals family. The franchise described his return as a special moment for everyone associated with the team.
Yuvraj already knows the franchise well. Delhi bought him for Rs 16 crore in 2015, when they were still the Delhi Daredevils. That made him the most expensive player in IPL history at the time. He played all 14 matches for the side that season.
He also brings a big playing record. Yuvraj played 304 ODIs, 40 Tests and 58 T20Is for India. He is a multiple World Cup winner. Several current India batters have credited him for helping their game. They include Test and ODI captain Shubman Gill, Abhishek Sharma and Prabhsimran Singh. Gill was named the ICC Men's Player of the Month for September on the same day. Abhishek equalled the calendar-year T20I sixes record earlier this week.
Ganguly leads the coaching group. He has worked with Delhi before. He was also appointed head coach of SA20 side Pretoria Capitals in August 2025.
Delhi Capitals are still chasing their first IPL title. They have never won the tournament. IPL 2027 is set to run from March 10 to May 15, 2027. The new coaching pair will have several months to plan before the season starts.
