Shai Hope Hits Second Unbeaten 102 of the T20I Series Against India, Again With Nine Sixes
Shai Hope scored his second century of the T20I series against India. He made an unbeaten 102 off 50 balls in the 4th T20I at the Rajiv Gandhi International Stadium in Hyderabad on Wednesday, October 14. His innings had 4 fours and 9 sixes. It helped West Indies beat India by 24 runs and level the series at 2-2.
The score will feel familiar. Hope also finished on 102 not out in the 2nd T20I in Ranchi on October 9. That knock came off 45 balls and had 6 fours and 9 sixes. He hit the same number of sixes in both innings. He also remained unbeaten both times.
The two centuries came in very different matches. In Ranchi, Hope chased down 250 with West Indies. It was their highest successful run chase in T20Is. In Hyderabad, he set the platform for a big total instead. West Indies made 247 for 3, and India fell short at 223 all out.
Hope began the series with 52 off 37 balls in the 1st T20I in Lucknow. He then hit two unbeaten hundreds in the next three matches. That is a rare run of form for a captain who also keeps wicket. He backed up his batting in Hyderabad with the gloves too. Hope stumped Naman Dhir off the bowling of Gudakesh Motie.
He was well supported in the big stand. Hope and Sherfane Rutherford added 91 runs in 43 balls for the fourth wicket. Rutherford finished on 49 not out off 26. Shimron Hetmyer had earlier smashed 33 off 12 balls. Hope's strike rate for the innings was 204.00.
Hope has also been in strong touch in the ODI leg of the tour. He made an unbeaten 162 off 143 balls in the 3rd ODI at New Chandigarh on October 3. West Indies won that match by 5 wickets.
His two Player of the Match awards in the T20I series came in Ranchi and Hyderabad. Both were wins for West Indies. The win in Hyderabad ended India's lead. The series now goes to a decider.
The 5th T20I will be played at the M. Chinnaswamy Stadium in Bengaluru on October 17. It starts at 7:00 PM IST. Hope will look for another big score.
