Sjøvold Strike Gives Bodø/Glimt 1-0 Win Over Borussia Dortmund
Bodø/Glimt beat Borussia Dortmund 1-0 at the Aspmyra Stadion in Bodø, Norway, on Wednesday, October 14, in matchday 2 of the Champions League. Fredrik Sjøvold scored the only goal in the 52nd minute, giving the Norwegian champions their first win of this season's league phase.
Kjetil Knutsen's side made a lightning start. Sondre Fet fired over after just 21 seconds, and Bodø were the better team throughout the first half. Jens Petter Hauge's volley from just inside the Dortmund penalty area in the 10th minute was held comfortably by goalkeeper Gregor Kobel, which was the only shot on target of the opening 45 minutes. Fet and Ole Blomberg both came inches away from scoring before the break. At the other end, Ramy Bensebaini hit a speculative effort wide of Nikita Haikin's goal, but Dortmund rarely threatened.
Bodø's pressure continued after half-time. Andreas Helmersen forced Kobel into a save just 23 seconds after the restart, and the breakthrough followed soon after. A counter-attack started by Patrick Berg ended with Sondre Auklend crossing low from the right, and Sjøvold, who plays at right-back, finished at the near post, smashing the ball past Kobel in the 52nd minute.
Dortmund coach Niko Kovač made four substitutions just past the hour mark, and his side did improve in the last half-hour. Felix Nmecha forced Haikin into a save with a strong distance shot and tested him again with a late effort in stoppage time, and Serhou Guirassy nearly scored from a tight angle after a cutback. Haikin made several saves, including one to smother a close-range attempt from Ethan Nwaneri, and Bodø held on.
The win lifted Bodø/Glimt after a 5-0 defeat away to Bayern Munich in the opening round. It also continued the club's excellent home record against Europe's big names. In 2026, they have now won each of their four Champions League home games, conceding only two goals in those matches. For Dortmund, who reached the 2024 Champions League final, it was another disappointing result after the draw with Werder Bremen in the Bundesliga on Friday.
