CSK Confirm Michael Hussey's Exit After Eight Years as Batting Coach
Chennai Super Kings have officially confirmed that Michael Hussey is leaving the franchise. The club made the announcement with a "Thank You Michael Hussey" post on its official social media account. It brings to an end his eight-year spell as batting coach. Hussey had held that role since 2018.
The post said Hussey had been an "integral part of the Chennai Super Kings family" since the very first season in 2008. CSK also said his time in yellow was about more than the runs he scored and the players he mentored. The club praised his dedication and humility as well.
The exit was first reported by Cricbuzz on October 10. The report said CSK had taken Hussey off their coaching roster as part of a larger restructuring ahead of IPL 2027. The franchise had not commented on it at that stage. The new post now settles the matter.
Hussey's bond with CSK goes back to the league's first season. He joined as a player in 2008 and skipped the 2009 season. He then played for the club from 2010 to 2013. After one season with Mumbai Indians in 2014, he returned to Chennai in 2015.
His numbers for the franchise were strong. He scored 2,213 runs in 64 matches at an average of 40.98. He also won the Orange Cap in IPL 2013 as the leading run-scorer. He was part of the side that won the title in 2010 and 2011. He moved into the support staff in January 2018, when CSK returned to the IPL after their two-year suspension.
His departure is part of a wider overhaul of the support staff. Zaheer Khan has replaced Stephen Fleming as head coach. Mohit Sharma has taken over from Eric Simons as bowling coach. The future of fielding coach James Foster has been reported as uncertain.
CSK have not yet named a new batting coach. Hussey may not stay out of the IPL for long. Reports say he has been in touch with a few other franchises. IPL 2027 is scheduled to begin in March 2027.
