Roma Score Twice in Last Five Minutes to Beat Cagliari 4-2 at the Olimpico
Roma came from behind to beat Cagliari 4-2 at the Stadio Olimpico on Tuesday night, October 27. The game was decided by two late goals. Rodrigo Mora and Donyell Malen scored them in the 85th and 87th minutes. It was a Matchday 9 midweek fixture in Serie A.
Cagliari made the better start. A handball by Pisilli inside the box gave them a penalty in the ninth minute, and the visitors went ahead from the spot. Roma did not take long to respond. In the 15th minute, Molina delivered a cross from the flank, and Lulli headed it in. Pisilli then scored to put Roma 2-1 up.
Gian Piero Gasperini's side looked in control for long spells. Cagliari, coached by Pisacane, stayed in the game. Gollini had to be sharp in the Roma goal, and he kept out a hard shot from Deiola in the second half. Cagliari kept pushing, and it paid off in the 81st minute. Obert found Daniel Maldini in the box, and he finished to make it 2-2.
A draw looked likely for a while. Roma had other ideas. Just four minutes after Maldini's goal, Mora headed in the third from inside the box. Two minutes later, Malen shot from the centre of the area and found the net for 4-2. That ended the contest. Roma had scored twice in the last five minutes of normal time.
The win is also a bounce-back of sorts for Roma after their 3-3 draw at Napoli on Saturday. They are still unbeaten in the league this season. Cagliari, on the other hand, had come into the match on the back of two straight losses without a goal. They lost 4-0 at Monza and 2-0 at Bologna. They were ninth on 13 points before kickoff.
Roma travel to Udinese on Saturday, October 31, for their next league game. Cagliari play at Lazio on Sunday, November 1.
