Mumbai Indians Name Robin Uthappa as Batting Coach for IPL 2027

Mumbai Indians have announced Robin Uthappa as their new batting coach for IPL 2027. The franchise confirmed the news on its official channels. Uthappa joins the support staff at a time of big change at the club.

The batting coach's job had fallen vacant for a clear reason. Kieron Pollard held that role until recently. Mumbai promoted him to head coach on October 24. He took over from Mahela Jayawardene, who had stepped down on October 17. With Pollard moving up, the club needed a fresh name to guide the batters. Uthappa now fills that gap.

Uthappa is no stranger to Mumbai. He made his IPL debut for the franchise in the 2008 season. He then played for several other teams over a long career. His best IPL year came with Kolkata Knight Riders in 2014. He helped them win the title. He also finished as the leading run-scorer that season and took home the Orange Cap.

His record for India is just as notable. Uthappa was part of the squad that won the 2007 T20 World Cup. He went on to play ODIs and T20Is for the country. He retired from all forms of cricket in 2022. Coaching now gives him a new way to stay close to the game.

The timing matters for Mumbai. The team finished ninth in the IPL 2026 points table. The franchise has since reset its dugout, with Pollard as head coach and now Uthappa working on the batting side. More support staff announcements may follow in the coming days.

The big dates are already set. The IPL 2027 mini auction is on December 16 in Goa. The season itself runs from March 10 to May 15, 2027. Ten teams will play 74 matches. Uthappa will have plenty to work on before the new season begins, including shaping a batting plan for the auction and the retention window.
