Soman Rana Wins Gold, Shubham Juyal Silver in Men's Shot Put F57 at CWG 2026

Soman Rana won gold in the men's shot put F57 final at the Commonwealth Games 2026 in Glasgow, with a best throw of 13.40m on his second attempt. Fellow Indian Shubham Juyal took silver with 13.28m, giving India a maiden one-two finish in the event.

Soman opened with 13.38m before improving to his winning mark in round two, a distance none of his rivals could match for the rest of the competition. Shubham saved his best for last, climbing from an opening 13.08m through several attempts before landing his silver-medal throw of 13.28m on his final attempt. Cameroon's Cedric Idriss Lekezo Azamdzi took bronze with 12.57m.

This is India's first-ever gold medal in the men's F57 shot put at the Commonwealth Games. Soman, an Indian Army havildar, lost a leg in a landmine blast in Jammu and Kashmir in 2006. He found his way into para athletics during rehabilitation at Pune's Artificial Limb Centre and has since competed at both the Tokyo 2020 and Paris 2024 Paralympics, adding silver at the 2022 Asian Para Games and bronze at the 2025 World Para Athletics Championships to his resume.

Shubham, who once aspired to join the Army like his father, turned to para sports after a motorcycle accident in 2022 left him with a leg amputation. Both athletes made their Commonwealth Games debut in Glasgow and are supported under the Target Olympic Podium Scheme.
