Gulveer Singh Wins Bronze in Men's 5000m at CWG 2026, Completes Historic Track Double

Gulveer Singh won bronze in the men's 5000m final at the Commonwealth Games 2026 in Glasgow, clocking 13:24.95 to complete a historic track double at these Games.

Gulveer ran a patient, tactical race, sitting with the lead pack for most of the distance before unleashing a strong finishing kick on the final lap. He moved up from fifth to third around the final bend and held off Kenya's Cornelius Kemboi by just 0.04 seconds to seal the podium finish. Australia's Matthew Kipsang won gold in 13:23.61, with compatriot Ky Robinson taking silver in 13:24.70.

The bronze came days after Gulveer won silver in the men's 10,000m in 27:49.78, making him the first Indian man to win two track medals at a single Commonwealth Games. The 5000m bronze is also India's first-ever Commonwealth Games medal in the event.

The Army runner from Uttar Pradesh has built a strong international record in distance running, with earlier medals at the Asian Games and Asian Athletics Championships, and holds India's national records in both the 5000m and 10,000m.
