Sony Bags TV Rights for Afghanistan-India T20Is; ACB Requests Ganesh Chaturthi Fixture

Sony Sports Network has secured the linear television broadcast rights for the upcoming Afghanistan versus India T20I series, set to be played in Delhi in September. FanCode will hold the digital streaming rights for the three-match contest.

ITW Universe, which holds the global media rights for the series, allotted the broadcast deal to Sony after discussions with other networks including JioStar, Zee and Unite8. The three T20Is are scheduled to be played at the Arun Jaitley Stadium in New Delhi on September 13, 15 and 17, with Afghanistan officially designated as the home side for the series.

Alongside the broadcast news, the Afghanistan Cricket Board has reached out to the BCCI requesting a modest schedule adjustment, seeking to have either the first or second T20I moved to September 14, which falls on Ganesh Chaturthi. ITW Universe founder Bhairav Shanth wrote to ACB CEO Naseeb Khan asking the board to consider the shift as a cultural gesture, noting that both proposed options would preserve the tight three-match window with only a minor change to the currently confirmed dates.

The series marks a notable occasion, being the first time Afghanistan will formally host India in a bilateral series on Indian soil, and will also serve as valuable preparation for both sides ahead of the Asian Games in Japan later in September.
