Rain Washes Out Japan vs Nepal, Nepal Through to Quarter-Finals

Persistent rain washed out the fifth match of the Asian Games 2026 men's cricket competition between Japan and Nepal at Korogi Sports Park in Nisshin, with both sides sharing the points after the contest was called off following the first innings.

Japan won the toss and chose to field, but the match was reduced to 15 overs a side before a start could be made, and rain returned once Nepal had finished batting. Sundeep Jora top-scored with an unbeaten 57 off 32 balls, adding an unbroken 65 with Lokesh Bam (53 not out) for the fifth wicket, as Nepal reached 149 for 4 in their 15 overs. The chase never got underway once the rain set in again, and officials eventually abandoned the match.

The no-result works out well for Nepal, who move to the top of Group A with 3 points from two games and are through to the quarter-finals. Japan, who have now managed just a single point from their two matches, are eliminated from contention. Group A concludes on September 27, when Afghanistan face Japan in a dead rubber.
