Anahat Singh Scripts History With Squash Singles Silver at 18

Anahat Singh became the first Indian woman to reach an Asian Games squash singles final, but had to settle for silver after a straight-games defeat to Malaysia's top seed Sivasangari Subramaniam at the Nagoya Kinjo Futo Arena.

The reigning champion from Hangzhou 2023 and world No. 5 dominated from the start, winning 11-4, 11-4, 11-7 in just 27 minutes, never allowing the 18-year-old Singh to settle into her rhythm. It capped a strong week for Singh, who beat Singapore's Wai Lynn Au Yeong in the round of 16, compatriot Tanvi Khanna in an all-Indian quarter-final, and produced a dramatic comeback win over Japan's Satomi Watanabe in the semi-final.

The silver surpasses the bronze medals won by India's previous squash stalwarts Dipika Pallikal (2014, 2018) and Joshna Chinappa (2018), and comes on the same day India's Abhay Singh also won silver in the men's singles final.
