Parul Chaudhary Sets National Record for Steeplechase Bronze as Tejaswin, Harita Also Medal

India added three more athletics bronze medals on Day 8 at the Asian Games. Parul Chaudhary won the women's 3000m steeplechase with a national record. Tejaswin Shankar took decathlon bronze. Harita Bhadra won bronze in a photo finish in the women's 200m.

Parul clocked 9:08.67. That beat her own national mark of 9:12.46 by 3.79 seconds. She stayed with the leaders for most of the race. Bahrain's Winfred Yavi then pulled away on the last lap and won in an Asian Games record of 9:04.36. Kazakhstan's Norah Jeruto Tanui took silver in 9:06.82. India's Ankita finished fourth in a personal best 9:19.24. It is Parul's third Asian Games medal.

Tejaswin finished the 10-event decathlon with 7,934 points. He briefly led the competition on the way. Japan's Yuma Maruyama won gold and China's Xinghua Chen took silver.

Harita ran 23.20 in the 200m final. She edged the fourth-placed runner by just 0.01 seconds. Singapore's Shanti Pereira won gold, and China's Yujie Chen took silver. Pereira had earlier taken silver in the 100m.

Together with the two silvers from the high jump and long jump, India's athletics tally at these Games reached 13 medals. That is six silver and seven bronze.
