Boonson Completes Sprint Double, Yan Ziyi Sets Javelin Games Record on Athletics Day 8

Day 8 of Asian Games athletics in Nagoya gave out golds to Thailand, China, Japan, Singapore, Bahrain and Chinese Taipei. Here is how the non-Indian finals went.

Sprints and hurdles. Thailand's Puripol Boonson won the men's 200m. He had already won the 100m, so he leaves with the sprint double. China's Yuanjiang Chen won the men's 110m hurdles. Japan's Rachid Muratake took silver and the Philippines' John Tolentino took bronze. Singapore's Shanti Pereira won the women's 200m after taking silver in the 100m. Japan went 1-2 in the women's 100m hurdles through Mako Fukube and Hitomi Nakajima.

Field and combined events. China's Ziyi Yan won the women's javelin with a Games record of 70.46m. Japan's Haruka Kitaguchi took silver with 62.70m. China's Yingying Huang won the women's long jump by 2cm over India's Ancy Sojan. Chinese Taipei's Fu Chao-hsuan won the men's high jump on countback. Japan's Yuma Maruyama won the men's decathlon.

Distance. Bahrain's Winfred Yavi won the women's 3000m steeplechase in an Asian Games record 9:04.36. It is her second gold of these Games after the 10,000m.

Also decided. Japan's Yuri Tanaka won the women's heptathlon, with teammate Nanaka Kajiki taking silver and Kazakhstan's Alina Chistyakova bronze. In the women's marathon race walk, China took gold and silver, with Li Ma second. Japan's Yukiko Umeno won bronze.
