Japan, Qatar and China Win Athletics Golds on Asian Games Day 9

Athletics at the Asian Games in Nagoya produced golds for Japan, China, Qatar, Sri Lanka, Bahrain and the UAE on Monday, with China taking both 4x100m relays.

Track. Japan's Kazuto Iizawa won the men's 1500m in 3:36.35, with teammate Nagiya Mori taking bronze. Japan also won the 3000m steeplechase through Ryuji Miura in 8:17.36, with Ryoma Aoki taking silver and Qatar's Zakaria Elahlaami bronze. Qatar's Bassem Hemeida won the men's 400m hurdles in 47.82, ahead of Japan's Taiju Goto. In the women's 400m hurdles, the UAE's Mariam Kareem took gold, with Kazakhstan's Adelina Zems in second.

Relays. China won the men's 4x100m in 38.17, ahead of Chinese Taipei and South Korea. The Chinese women then won their 4x100m in 42.96, with Thailand taking silver and Japan bronze.

Field. China's Yuhao Shi won the men's long jump with 8.17m, with Uzbekistan's Anvar Anvarov taking bronze. China's Bin Feng won the women's discus, and her teammate Zhichao Jiang took silver, with Thailand's Subenrat Insaeng third.

Sri Lanka's Rumesh Pathirage won the javelin and Bahrain's Winfred Yavi won the women's 5000m. The athletics programme finishes on Tuesday with nine more finals.
