Japan Sweep Four of Five Soft Tennis Golds, Meena Wins India's First Medal

Japan dominated soft tennis at the Asian Games, winning four of the five golds on offer, with Chinese Taipei denying them a clean sweep in the mixed doubles.

Japan won both team titles, beating Chinese Taipei in the men's final and Chinese Taipei again in the women's, with Indonesia and South Korea taking bronze in the men's event and the Philippines and South Korea sharing bronze in the women's.

In the singles, Japan's Toshiki Uematsu beat teammate Takuya Kurosaka for men's singles gold, with India's Jay Meena and Chinese Taipei's Po-yi Chen sharing bronze. Japan's Rena Temma won the women's singles final, with North Korea's Jin Mi Ri taking silver.

Chinese Taipei's Yu Kai-wen and Huang Shih-yuan won the mixed doubles gold, beating Japan's Toshiki Uematsu and Rena Temma pairing in the final, with a second Japanese pair and South Korea's Park Jaekyu and Kim Yeon-hwa sharing bronze.

Meena's bronze is India's first-ever Asian Games medal in soft tennis, coming after he reached the semi-final on the back of a seven-set quarter-final win over the Philippines.
