Zhang Zhanshuo Wins Record Seven Swimming Golds at Asian Games

Zhang Zhanshuo of China won a record seven swimming golds at the Asian Games 2026. The 19-year-old swept the men's freestyle events from 200m to 1500m and added three relay titles. That ties the Asian Games all-sports record.

His four individual wins came in the 200m (1:43.49, an Asian record), the 400m (3:41.28, a Games record), the 800m (7:42.49, a Games record) and the 1500m (14:42.42). Japan's Kaito Tabuchi took silver in both the 800m and the 1500m.

The relays added the rest. China won the 4x100m freestyle in an Asian record 3:10.60. They won the 4x200m freestyle in 7:00.17, another Asian and Games record. Zhang anchored that race in 1:42.92, the fastest relay split in history, and overtook Japan on the final lap. He also earned gold in the 4x100m medley relay after swimming in the heats.

His seventh gold came on the final night in the 400m freestyle. Kazushi Imafuku of Japan took silver in 3:45.55, and China's Fei Liwei took bronze in 3:45.78. Zhang was a key part of China's haul of 30 swimming golds in Tokyo.
